The Dr. Jose Rizal Monument in San Remigio Elementary School, Antique, was built in 1922 and is nearly a century old. Donated by Atty. Ramon Maza, it symbolizes patriotism and honors Rizal’s fight for Philippine freedom. The life-size statue stands prominently at the school’s front and is surrounded by benches and plants, with a unique design featuring his books attached to his leg. Originally placed at the back of the school, it was moved to its current location in the 1990s through community effort and donations. Every December 30, the school and community hold a simple ceremony to honor Rizal, involving flower offerings, songs, and tributes. Though the statue has minor damage and faded paint, it is regularly maintained and repainted by the school staff to preserve its significance.
