Sagay Young Artists Club (SYAC), located in Sagay, Negros Occidental, is a cultural institution founded in 1966 by Soledad S. Plana to nurture children’s musical talents and promote creativity. The organization provides training in piano, violin, other instruments, vocal performance, dance, and visual arts, while also offering performance opportunities in recitals, cultural shows, and church events. Over the decades, SYAC expanded its programs with expert mentors, including ballet, orchestral instruments, and traditional Negrense dance, achieving milestones such as NAMCYA regional recognition and sending scholars to the Philippine High School for the Arts. Many members have continued their musical careers professionally, teaching, performing, or pursuing scholarships, demonstrating the socio-economic impact of the institution. Despite challenges like declining participation, the passing of key mentors, and members leaving for college, SYAC remains active through programs like the Special Program in the Arts at Sagay National High School and local government-supported workshops, ensuring the preservation of Sagay’s musical and cultural heritage.
