The research paper titled “Cultural Mapping of Natural Heritages in the First and Second Congressional Districts in Iloilo Province, West Central Philippines”, authored by Prof. Joselito Trandio P. Mendoza of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISATU) and Anna Razel L. Ramirez of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), was presented during the 30th CIPA 2025 Symposium held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from August 25–29, 2025. The paper highlights the documentation and data management strategies for natural heritage sites in Iloilo through digitization and website development. ‘Bádbad’ and ‘Panagway’: Stronger Voices for Ati and Panay Bukidnon

Long confined to their ancestral lands, the language, lifeways, and historical narratives of the Ati and Panay Bukidnon will now journey across new places through two newly launched books by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV). The University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas) has been recognized as a Heritage Awardee by the Iloilo City Government for its vital role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage through the Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras (CMPG) Project. The award was conferred during a ceremony held at Diversion 21 Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, on June 26, 2025. UPV Chancellor Clement C. Radiance of Western Visayas’ culture comes into focus in CMPG film event

The radiant culture of Western Visayas took center stage during the Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental Project (CMPG) first-ever film screening event at the Auditorium of UP Visayas Iloilo City Campus on May 24, 2025. It is one of the several events organized by the project in celebration of National Heritage Month. The UP Visayas (UPV) Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental Project (CMPG) has opened to the public the visual highlights of its executed cultural mapping in Western Visayas at Northpoint, SM City Iloilo on May 19, 2025. With its theme Kasanag sang Kultura: Western Visayas sa Mata sang Kamera, the photo exhibit showcases a collection of works by CMPG Documentarian Marc Leo Layson, whose photographs offer a glimpse into the tangible and intangible legacies of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. Project Teams from Aklan State University, Capiz State University, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science Technology, Guimaras State University, University of Antique, West Visayas State University, and the Department of Education Region VI attended the event, which concluded the engagements of these institutions for the inventory of cultural heritage of Western Visayas. Students from various universities including UP Visayas, West Visayas State University, University of San Agustin, and John B. Lacson Maritime Foundation University were given a chance to be interns for the Kaangtanan: Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental Province (CMPG) 1st Conference held in Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City on October 23-25, 2024. This enabled students who were enrolled in various fields to have a chance to experience cultural and heritage work.
