The Jose Rizal Monument in Barangay Guisijan, Laua-an, Antique, is a public statue built in 1948 that honors the national hero Jose Rizal. The statue shows Rizal in a formal suit with a white coat draped over his arm, standing on a concrete pedestal with books by his side, symbolizing his role as a scholar. It is located in the old municipal plaza, an area once considered for becoming the town center due to Guisijan’s past importance and economic activity. The community respects the site deeply, especially after a local story about a family experiencing a strange illness after cleaning the monument, which led to more cautious and quiet commemorations. The statue remains in good condition and has not been moved or altered since it was built. Although there is a land dispute involving the nearby church, the local government plans to rehabilitate the monument and the plaza area.
