The Brackishwater Aquaculture Center (BAC) in Barangay Nabitasan, Leganes, Iloilo, was established in 1971 to advance research and education in brackishwater aquaculture. It became the National Center for Brackishwater Aquaculture Research in 1975 and offers degree programs in fisheries and aquaculture. BAC has a large, well-equipped facility with ponds, labs, classrooms, and housing, supporting its role in education and research. The center focuses on sustainable aquaculture, developing new techniques to improve fish growth while protecting the environment. It also helps local farmers by providing training, technical support, and promoting integrated farming methods that boost productivity and income. Despite operating under a lease agreement pending land rights finalization, BAC continues to promote research, student training, and community collaboration to ensure the future of aquaculture in the region.
