The Tuburan Abaca Handicraft Association (TAHA) in Janiuay, Iloilo, is a group promoting abaca-based crafts, which are made from abaca, a strong natural fiber native to the Philippines. Since its founding in 2006, TAHA has grown from 26 to 33 members and produces various items like mats, bags, and decorative paper, helping create jobs and boost local incomes. The association works closely with local government and the Department of Trade and Industry to train members and improve products, leading to growing orders across the region. TAHA’s products are eco-friendly and show the creativity and hard work of Filipino artisans, making them popular gifts and souvenirs. Challenges include environmental risks to abaca plants, market competition, and limited funding, but efforts like showcasing products at local events help keep the association thriving.
