KAPAWA-Maasin is a federation of 16 barangays in Iloilo that was established in response to severe degradation of the Maasin watershed, officially launching operations in 2000 under a DENR rehabilitation program. It led reforestation and agroforestry efforts under the Community-Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA), empowering local communities and later inspiring youth participation through the Young Advocates for Nation (YAN). Beyond ecological restoration, KAPAWA developed sustainable livelihoods such as bamboo and abaca crafts, hog production, and transport services to uplift the socio-economic status of its members. Its success in environmental conservation has earned recognition and ongoing support, including renewed government trust and project partnerships. The group continues to serve as a trading outlet for local products while monitoring and maintaining the watershed. Despite facing challenges like inactive members and logistical setbacks, the organization receives training and support from local government to sustain its mission of environmental stewardship and community empowerment.
