Eliseo Jamero Sanglap, born in June 1876 in Jaro, Iloilo, became a key political figure during the American colonial period. He served as Municipal President of Miagao and later became the first Municipal President of San Joaquin after leading efforts to regain its independence in 1910. The annexation of San Joaquin to Miagao caused hardships, especially for farmers, prompting Sanglap to advocate for the town’s autonomy. His leadership led to the issuance of Executive Order No. 21, restoring San Joaquin’s municipal status. Known as the “Father of San Joaquin’s Independence,” he played a vital role in shaping local governance and improving lives in his community. He died on July 27, 1930, leaving a legacy of service, advocacy, and historical importance.
