The 1869-1928 Canonical Books on Baptismal Records of Tobias Fornier, Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino Collection is a collection of baptismal records stored in the Dao Parish Convent. Comprising 15 volumes, they contain original handwritten entries in Spanish from 1869 to 1912 on vellum paper, followed by printed records from 1912 to 1928. The collection offers valuable insights into the community’s religious and socio-political landscape during the Spanish and early American colonial periods. The records detail baptisms with detailed information about the child, the parents and their occupations, and sponsors, showcasing the town’s social and political structure. Some volumes were reportedly saved from destruction during WWII, making them valuable sources of genealogical and cultural history for the local population. However, these books have also deteriorated due to age, with yellowing, fading, holes, and missing pages. Conservation efforts are limited, with the books currently stored in a non-air-conditioned room on glass-covered shelves.
