Noel R. Calimpong, born in 1944 in Dumarao, Capiz, excelled academically and earned scholarships to study at prestigious schools, including the University of the Philippines Iloilo. He graduated with honors from St. Pius X Seminary and later earned a Master’s degree in Teaching from the University of San Agustin. Calimpong worked as a teacher, choir leader, and writer, and became deeply involved in theater, directing important productions like “Noli Me Tangere” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and was known as the first person from Dumarao to lead a cultural performance at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He returned to his hometown to support his retiring parents and eventually became the first principal of Bungsuan National High School until his retirement in 2009. His work in theater helped promote Filipino culture, while his involvement in education encouraged students to appreciate folk traditions and literature. Additionally, he contributed to local government planning by helping revise a key land use plan to support sustainable community development.
