Marben “Boyboy” del Rio is a known local hero, remembered for his heroic actions during the October 2006 typhoon. He was born and raised in Brgy. Barasan, Igbaras, Iloilo, and attended Barasan Elementary School and Igbaras National High School. However, he was not able to continue his studies and soon followed his father learning farming and carpentry.

On October 2, 2006, during a devastating typhoon, a jeepney fell into the Tangayan River. Marben attempted to rescue the passengers, returning several times despite warnings from his family. In his final act of rescue, Marben was swept away by the river’s strong currents. His actions were mourned by the community; he rescued six out of the 41 passengers. Posthumously, he was awarded the Scout Roy Award by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Igbaras, the first recipient of this award.
