The bangkaw owned by Lucio Gomez is a spear believed to be around 90 years old. Made of metal and wood, the spear measures 142 cm in total length, with a 34 cm metal blade that is dull and has rusted over time. Originally purchased by his grandfather in Valderama, Antique for hunting animals like deer and pigs, the spear was then passed down to his father Jose Gomez, then to Lucio who currently continues the family tradition. It was used not only to provide food but also to earn money by selling the animals they caught. The bangkaw is an uncommon artifact of Panay’s traditional culture, with similar spears found only sporadically in nearby municipalities. Although it is deteriorating due to rust, grease is regularly applied to slow further damage.
