Altavas College, located in Sitio Pupos, Barangay Poblacion, Altavas, Aklan, was established through Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 27, Series of 2003, to provide affordable education for local youth who could not study in distant cities. The college was founded by Mayor Denny D. Refol, who aimed to help underprivileged families by creating a local institution for higher learning. It officially opened on April 14, 2003, with 140 students and has since expanded its programs, including Criminology and Education, both later granted CHED compliance certifications. The college has also embraced the K–12 program and continues to grow under the leadership of Acting College Administrator Dr. Georby C. Manuel. Beyond academics, the campus is known for mysterious stories tied to its location, once believed to be an old cemetery, adding to its local folklore.
