Haydee Coloso-Espino, born in Dueñas, Iloilo in 1937, was a celebrated Filipino swimmer known as the “Swim Queen of Asia.” She began swimming competitively at age 13 and became a national champion from 1951 to 1953. At the 1954 Asian Games, she won two gold medals and set a new record, later earning more medals at the 1958 Tokyo Asiad and the 1962 Jakarta Asiad. In total, she brought home 10 Asian Games medals: three golds, five silvers, and two bronzes, making her the most decorated Filipino athlete in the games at that time. After competing in the 1960 Rome Olympics, she retired and became a physical education teacher before migrating to Canada. Honored with induction into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in 2016, she remains a symbol of excellence in Philippine sports history.
