The Calang Fossil is a small shell fossil found in Barangay Calang, Dueñas, Iloilo, believed to be dated to the Interglacial Period and excavated in 2018. It shows shapes of ancient sea animals, providing important information about the area’s prehistoric marine life and environmental history. Discovered during house construction, it was reported to the local government and then given to the Dueñas Museum of Cultural History for safekeeping. The fossil is important historically, scientifically, socially, and aesthetically, symbolizing the community’s connection to its past and offering chances for study and education. It is rare and valuable as evidence of ancient marine life in the region. However, the fossil is fragile and damaged, requiring careful conservation to prevent further decay.
